5) YOUR CONTROL PANEL

Your control panel is the workhorse for your website.

---Edit Navigation Bar
The Navigation Bar is the list of links that takes you to the different pages of your website when they are clicked on.  You have the option of selecting up to 12 categories to be listed in the navigation bar and also customizing the title of each category.

The default categories for your Navigation Bar are About The Artist, Articles, Blog, Books, Contact the Artist, Email Newsletter, Events, Galleries, Links, Other Form, Other1, Other2, Pages, Works, Workshops.  You can select the order you want the categories to appear in your Navigation Bar.  You can also edit the name of the category by typing your preferred name in the "Override Text" field to the right of each category.

You will see the list of categories to choose from when you click on the drop down arrow next to a category.

In the "Navigation Heading" box, you can enter text that will appear at the top of every page of your website.  This is your website heading/website name.

**After making any changes to the Navigation Bar, hit submit and the changes will be saved.

..........

---Edit Main Page Information
In the "Edit Main Page Information" section, you can enter any text you may want to appear on the main page, and choose an image to appear on your main page.

..........

---Change Your Site Style
We have several website styles for you to choose from.

**We are strongly suggesting that you choose one of the NewEnhanced site styles.  The other site styles will soon be obsolete and your only option will be the enhanced site styles.

Advantages of the Enhanced Templates:

1. Most custom work is accomplished with CSS not HTML, which allows you to change your site style to give your website a fresh look when you desire.
2. With the Enhanced Templates...custom work will not be as costly (many changes that used to be 'custom' work - can now be done quickly at no charge)
3. They also allow for total control of all fonts on your site, as well as control over many more elements of your site.  (to add 'fancy script' in place of your website name, would still require a logo)
4. The Enhanced Template allows your website to be viewed on Mobil Devices, which is a quickly growing trend.
5. You can add more categories on your Navigation Bar, (12 instead of 8)
6. Facebook 'like' buttons are available for your portfolio images and blog posts.

To enable:
-from control panel
-click on MY ARTWORK PORTFOLIO
-click on Edit the works display
-click on Options for Enhanced Templates
-select YES for Use Facebook Like Buttons on Works
-Save

7. Some pages, such as Events and Workshops, have new 'fields' that only function on the new Enhanced Templates.

To select or change your site style:
-from your Control Panel
-click on EDIT SITE STYLE
-choose the style you want
-click on Save Changes

Please note: You cannot preview the site styles before choosing them, but you will not affect your site content by choosing a different site style.

Also - you may need to refresh your browser to see the changes to your site style.

..........

---My Administration Info
This section contains information about you - your name, address, phone numbers, email
address.  You can also change your password in this section.  This information is not posted anywhere on your website.  We will not share your personal information with anyone.

..........

---My Artwork Portfolio
This is where you upload or edit the artwork that you want to display in your Works category.

**You will find information for how to upload artwork to your portfolio above in section 4.  The images that you upload will be displayed in the works category of your website.

..........

---Images That Are Not Artwork
This is where you want to upload photos and images that are not art that you might be using on your website.  For example, you might want to add a picture of yourself to your About the Artist page.

Your images must be saved on your hard drive, floppy disc, CD, or Zip disc in .jpg or .jpeg format before you can upload them to your website.

-From your control panel
-click on Images That Are Not Artwork
-click on Add a New Non-Art Image

-image file name(s) now appear in the upload box screen of your control panel
-click Upload Your Images

..........

---Statistics about your sites visitors
This is where you can find your websites statistics.  You can track visits, what visitors
have looked at, approximately where the visitor visited from, and other information.

..........

-click on a plan to select it
-add your credit card information
-?????

**When entering the credit card number, do not use spaces, dashes, or any other characters other than numbers.

8) ADDING IMAGES TO YOUR WEBSITE CATEGORIES

There are two ways to add images to the category pages on your website.  You can add an image to the upper left of the page using the 'img Main Image' dropdown or you can add images to the text editing area of page using the INSERT IMAGE Icon.

TRADITIONAL WAY TO ADD AN IMAGE:  Using the 'img Main Image' drop down

Using the 'img Main Image' drop down will add a single image to your website at the top left of the page.  Some categories offer a second image option that when added will appear at the bottom of the page.

When adding the image in this manner, text will wrap around the image at the top of the page.

ADDING IMAGES TO TEXT AREA USING THE "INSERT IMAGE" ICON

The INSERT IMAGE Icon (mountain with sun) allows you to add images within the body of the text and adjust their size and placement.

Instructions for using the INSERT IMAGE icon:
1. In the text entry page, Activate cursor where you want to add additional images.
2. Click on the INSERT IMAGE icon
-this is in both the Full Screen Mode and the Main Text Editing screen
3. You will be given the following three ways to add images:
- Add a New Image from Your Computer
- Use an Image that you've already uploaded
- Use an Image from the another Website
4. Click on the option you want to use to upload an image
5. Choose the image size you wish to add.
*'Insert Image'…standard size for INSERT IMAGE icon is (300 pixels wide on the long side)
*'Insert Image - (Original Size)'…will insert the image at the size it was uploaded.
7. repeat to add additional images
8. click SAVE CHANGES

NOTE: If using both image placement methods on same page…images added using the INSERT IMAGE Icon must be added further down page, within the text, not at the top of the text editing page.

HOW TO EDIT IMAGE  LOCATION:
You can 'edit' the location of the image on the page (left, center, right) by using the 'edit text' icons above text editing area.

1. click on image to select
(small 'boxes' will appear around the edges on PC/image will change color on Mac)
2. click on text editing icon to change placement of image found above main text editing area and in Full Screen Mode
(left justify, center, right justify)
3. SAVE CHANGES

HOW TO EDIT IMAGE SIZE:
You can make an image smaller but not larger..without causing distortion.  If you need an image larger than 300 pixels wide on the long side... you will need to use the 'Insert Image - (Original Size)' option and then make it smaller.

FIRST OPTION:
1. Click on Full Screen Mode (lower left of main text editing page)
2. Left Click on the image
(a new small yellow 'Edit Image Properties' window will open above image)
3. Left Click on 'Edit Image Properties'
4. Add desired pixel  dimension to one field. .other will follow
(this will assure that picture is re-sized in proportion)
5.click UPDATE
6. When you get the look you want..click SAVE CHANGES

SECOND OPTION:
1. Click on image to select (little boxes will appear around the edge)
2. Grab the little  box IN ANY CORNER and pull  or push in to make image smaller.
3. When you get the look you want..click SAVE CHANGES

8.5) ADDING TEXT TO  YOUR WEBSITE CATEGORIES

You CANNOT PASTE preformatted documents from a wordprocessing program such as MS Word or copied from another source directly into the text editor for any page on your website without using proper procedures.

What works best is to compose from scratch right in the FASO Full Screen Mode edit page as you would in any word processing program.  Save frequently (using the options at upper right of page).

Some things to keep in mind.  Websites are built on a special code system known as HTML.  This differs greatly from the code used in Word Processing programs.  The two simply do not play well together.

Formatted documents created in a word processing program or copied from another source will cause a multitude of issues with your website page when pasted directly into the editing screen.

The text can display wrong font or color, your website page can be distorted, and edits may not take… just to name a few.

If you feel you must paste a previously created document, you have two options.

1. In the FullScreenMode editor - place cursor where you want text to start and click the "Paste as Plain Text" button (5th from the left) and then paste the text in.  You will lose all the formatting, but it will be "clean" text.

2. Copy 'preformatted text' into Notepad and then copy and paste from the Notepad document directly into FASO edit page.

To access notepad:
-click on your computer START button
-click All Programs
-click Accessories
-click Notepad

If you're on a Mac, we recommend the application Text Edit:
-click on the Search icon (looking glass, top right of screen)
-enter Text Edit
-click on Text Edit
After typing/pasting your text, click Format, then "Make Plain Text"

You can then re-apply any formatting as needed using the text editing icons at the top of editing screen.  This will assure that any formatting  will be done correctly to display on the web.
